Helltide Explained

- No Helltide, No Endgame Power

Helltide is one of the most important endgame Events in Diablo 4. Here players will fight overleveled enemies around the map for —boosted loot drops; a special currency called Aberrant Cinders used to open Helltide Chests that reward Legendary Items, and Helltide only resources such as Forgotten Soul and Fiend Rose that are needed for Item Upgrades and Affix re-rolling.

- How to Unlock Helltide Events?

To unlock Helltide, players need to finish the campaign and then complete the Capstone Dungeon that unlocks World Tier 3, Nightmare difficulty. Once World Tier 3 is accessible, a Priority Quest “The Helltide Rises" will pop up which need to be completed to unlock the Helltide Events.

Helltide lasts for one hour and happen randomly in the open world.

- Where and how to find Helltide?

You can determine whether a region is experiencing Helltide in a couple of ways:

  • observing the map where a Helltide Icon will appear.

  • checking where parts of the map are covered in red color

  • checking the sky and area color by looking for a reddish hue.

- How often does Helltides Spawn?

Helltides in Diablo 4 spawn randomly around the World Map once every 75 minutes. At the end of one Helltide, there is a 75 minutes cooldown.

Each Helltide Event lasts for exactly one hour.

Rewards, endgame Power and Resources

As mentioned before. Helltide Events provide Aberrant Cinders, loot and resources: Forgotten Soul and Fiend Rose

Aberrant Cinders can be obtained by slaying enemies in Helltides. The currency is time-limited and must be used to open Helltide Chests around the area. You cannot carry over any Cinders left if the timer expires and you cannot use them in the next Helltide spawn, so make sure to use them before the time runs out.

Diablo 4 Helltide Rewards and Rare Resources

Aberrant Cinders are required to open Tortured Gifts for:

  • Legendary Items

  • Crafting Materials

  • Cosmetic Items

Tortured Gifts chests can be found around the map in the area where Helltide has spawned. Check the map for a special chest icon.

Chests value go up and down starting from 75 all the way up to 175 .

Some chests are item specific and reward only Gloves or Weapons or other gear part. But other chests can give items at random. For example the “Tortured Gift of Mysteries” that costs 175 Aberrant Cinders to open has a high chance to drop up to 8 Legendary Items.

To make things easier on planning ahead on what chests should you open, here’s a list of all the costs needed to open each type of Tortured Gift chest:

  • Tortured Gift of Protection that can drop —Pants, Helm, Boots, Chest, Gloves; require 75 Aberrant Cinders.

  • Tortured Gift of Jewelry that can drop —Rings and Amulets require 125 Aberrant Cinders.

  • Tortured Gift of Weaponry that drop —all weapon types require 150 Aberrant Cinders.

  • Tortured Gift of Mysteries that drop —up to 8 Legendary Items requires 175 Aberrant Cinders.

Please note that:

*Helltide is not PvP, but the event can spawn everywhere on the map, be sure to check where are you going.

*If a player dies during a Helltide event, they will lose half of the cinders accumulated up to that point. The total amount of Cinders you have can be seen next to the mini map.

*Before opening any chest, check the name on top of it. It will be self explanatory and tell you exactly what rewards lay inside.
