How to get a mount in Diablo 4?

Where is Donans Favor?

After reaching Act Four in the campaign, you'll get a mission called A Gathering Storm in Diablo 4. For this mission, you need to travel to Kyovashad and interact with Donan at the Cathedral of Light. After speaking with him for a while, Donan will ask you to talk to the stable master about a steed.

To get access to mounts in Diablo 4, you need to complete Donan’s Favor Quest.

Although the Quest and the Stables are unlocked early in the game, you can’t finish it to get your first horse until later on.

By finishing the Prologue, you will unlock the game’s first city Kyovashad. Following up the story, Act 1, Act 2 and Act 3 will be available for you to complete in any order.

You must complete Act 1, Act 2 and Act 3, in order to unlock the quest “Mount: Donans Favor.”

Following up, in Act 4 you will meet with Donan, and after finishing the first quest you can complete Donans Favor.

Go back to Kyovashad and speak with Oskar, he is located at the Stables.

Here is where you will get your first horse.

Note: You only need to complete the quest once. This will unlock the Mounts on all of your alts starting from level 1, and you don’t need to do the quest again whenever you decide to create other characters on the same account.

How the mount system works?

  • You can purchase mounts from any Stable Master in the game.

  • You can discover more mounts by completing specific quests.

  • You can Key bind the mount to any button

  • The mount has a special Dash ability. Three charges that increase your bonus speed.

  • You get dismounted automatically if you take too much damage.

Tips and tricks

Here’s a couple of things that you can or can’t do while you are on the mount:

  • You can open chests.

  • You can loot orbs.

  • You can activate shrines.

  • You can jump across gaps.

  • You can break barricades.

  • You can’t use your mount in Dungeons.

  • You can’t jump off cliffs.

  • You can’t use zip lines.

  • You can’t stack stack speed with mount skill.

How to customise your mount in Diablo 4

Unlock skins and cosmetics for mounts

Visit any Stable Master, to browse and customise your active mount.

Some Stable Masters, and specific NPC’s will have unique accessories and cosmetics to sell. Visit them by following the horse icon on the map.

Red dust (PvP currency) can also be used to buy mounts and accessories.

Unlock more trophies and armors by completing specific quests and challenges in the game.

Helltide Events and Treasure Goblins can also drop mount armors.

How to get different mounts in Diablo 4?

There are a couple of different ways to get other mounts in Diablo IV.

One way to unlock more mounts will be by completing specific quests and challenges in the game. For example, completing the “Gathering Legion” World Event in Kor Dragan Stronghold will reward you with the Spectral Charger mount.

World bosses around the Sanctuary have also a small chance of dropping mounts.

In addition, you can also buy mounts for Gold (starting from 20.000) from Stable Masters or with Red dust (PvP Currency), in Kehjistan and the Dry Steppes PvP Zones.

Furthermore you can unlock more mounts in the cash shop. The in-game store has a section where you can purchase them mounts for Platinum.

To get the new Mount Trophies you need to defeat the End Game Bosses added in Season 2 - Season of Blood.

Below is a list of the bosses and the requirements to encounter them:

Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint (World Tier III and IV): You must gather enough Living Steel from the Tortured Offering in Helltide. In addition to Unique items that can only drop from Grigoire, you also have a chance to receive the Demonbinder Mount Armor Cosmetic.

Echo of Varshan (World Tier III and IV): Defeat Grotesque Debtors during Whispers of the Dead for a chance to receive parts of Varshan’s body. The Tree of Whispers collections—gained from turning in Grim Favors—guarantees a part of Varshan’s body. Once you have enough parts, including a Malignant Heart if you’re playing on World Tier IV, you can summon Varshan. The Malignant Heart that drops cannot be socketed and is a consumable item used solely to summon Varshan—it is different from the Hearts that dropped in Season of the Malignant. The Flesh-Weld Rod Trophy has a chance to drop from this boss in addition to Unique items that can only drop from Varshan.

The Beast in the Ice (World Tier IV): Gather Distilled Fear while completing Tier 30 or higher Nightmare Dungeons. After you have enough, visit the Occultist and craft the Glacial Fissure Nightmare Sigil, activate it, then you can fight The Beast in the Ice. The Skull Torch and Fell Steed Mount Trophies can potentially drop from this boss, in addition to Unique items exclusive to it.

Echo of Duriel (World Tier IV): Defeat both Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint and Varshan in World Tier IV to collect Mucus-Slick Eggs and Shards of Agony. Once you have enough, you’ll be able to summon the Lord of Pain, Duriel! Out of this group of Bosses, Duriel is the only one who has a chance to drop Uber Unique items. The smoldering Brimstone Mount can also potentially drop from this boss.

Bonus: Unlock your first special mount

The mount called Spectral Charger and Ghastly Reins can be unlocked for free by completing specific task in the game.

Start by completing Kor Dragan Stronghold first. This will unlock an entirely separate World Event called “Gathering Legion”.

Kor Dragan is one of three Strongholds in Fractured Peaks, and it's located northwest of Kyovashad and northeast of the Menestad Waypoint. Recommended level for this event is level 30.

“Gathering Legion” World Event spawn time is random.

Upon completing the Gathering Legion Event, players can loot the Ghastly Reigns (check your inventory at the end) which can be used to add the Spectral Charger into the Stables. ("Reward Gained: Mount. Visit a Stablemaster to equip.")

Note: if you do complete Gathering Legion before Donan’s Favor Quest you won’t be able to ride the horse.
